Earlier during the Ramadhan month, I just finished my finals for my second semester. Well, that means... I SURVIVED MY FIRST YEAR IN LAW SCHOOL!! Well, law school is definitely a tough journey for all future lawyers or judges out there, trust me. So I survived my freaking first year without quitting halfway :')
Looking back to those two semesters that I spent... lol I actually went through a lot. Like... urm.. a lot lah hohoho. I've mentioned in my previous post before that I got accepted to Law School UUM(Northern University of Malaysia or Universiti Utara Malaysia). In UUM, we use the word 'school' instead of 'faculty' so we got 'School of Law', 'School of Accounting' and etc! Cool isn't it?? Ceh biasa je lol nama je kot. Anyway, I will introduce more about UUM Law School and my journey during the first year for the Session 2016/2017 :))
I'm pretty sure most foundation law students that graduated would avoid UUM's Law School (because I was one of those kids who were very skeptical and didn't want to enrol here :p). I know it's because UUM's Law School is not the top law school in Malaysia. Somehow, if you get UUM's Law School later on, don't worry. You're going to survive here, unless if you're a snobbish little bratz that can't stay at remote(?) town called Sintok/Changloon lol. Of course the place is quite far from Alor Setar town, it takes us 30-45mins to get there by car, if I'm not mistaken. But you masuk university nak belajar ke nak main weh,,, no need to worry about shopping malls and those places sangat pun tbh -_-
UUM is a good place for studyholic students and a greattt place for those who want to be free from the city. It's hassle-free when it comes to accommodations and transportation (except for students at Kachi lol) to go to lectures. For accommodations, all students will be staying at the residential colleges, so you don't have to worry about renting a place outside. Unlike other universities, you have to be really active in college in order to stay in your residential college or otherwise, you'll be kicked out and have to spend a lot of money to rent outside. Especially area KL and Selangor. So, this is one of the benefits of studying at UUM. /this is not a promo anyway haha/ But you cannot choose your own residential colleges except if you have a problem and need to transfer to other residential college. And your roommate might or might not be someone from your course. Also, UUM is strict when it comes to dress code. You gotta wear formal clothes to classes/lectures. You cannot simply wear a crop top with short pants or jeans... But sometimes I just wear my T-shirt lol I'm lucky that most of the time, my law lecturers didn't care about our clothes as long as our clothes are appropriate.
For law students... y'all can wear black and white as usual but mostly, we only wear bnw outfits on Mondays lol. But memang tak ramai pakai bnw because nanti orang cakap korunk kerek lol especially non-law students. But up to you lah if you want to wear bnw or colourful outfits.. And law students takde double-degree/major and minor degree like other courses tau! Since our course is VERY heavy and we have like 160-172(sorry can't remember) credit hours while other courses only have like 120-150 credit hours only :'''''''''''''''))))) unfair isn't it but what can we do, we still have to go through those 172 hellish hours to get the precious LLB... harharhar.... ._.
There are 7 core university subjects that law students are bound to study. Those subjects are Principles of Management, Ethnic R/ship, Computer Applications in Management, Business Accounting, Intro to Entrepreneurship, Islamic and Asian Civilizations, Malaysia National/Kenegaraan M'sia. We also need to choose one elective subject but the subject must not be from School of Law. You must choose subject from, perhaps, School of Government or etc.
We also must choose our elective programs (law subjects). Previously law students have to choose 12 elective subjects but after some changes in UUM's law program, we can only choose 5 elective subjects. And most of the elective subjects are related to business/corporate so if you are not interested in business or corporate laws, you may choose to not study here lol. But we have Cyber Law, Intellectual Property Law, Environmental Law, Shipping Law, and etc (sorry I couldn't remember) if you still want to study law at UUM.
One more thing, I was from UiTM's law foundation and foundation students, y'all know that back then we didn't choose groups(classes) and timetables by our own right? We had to follow the schedules that were given by the management of UiTM. But students at UUM,, you have to register your own subjects.. You have to arrange timetables by your own. But the good thing is you can choose any groups that you want and what time you are going to finish all your classes. However, it is difficult to register for classes since you have to fight for limited places for a subject. My batch had a problem and some were not satisfied because there were only 50 seats(? lol tf) for Copyright Law and my batch consists of 110-130 ppl. And honestly, it was a mess hahahaha because everyone had to wait for the internet server to work so that everyone could register subjects that we want.
For co-curriculum, all students are allowed to choose their own co-curriculum programs. UUM students need to take the co-curriculum programs for 4 semesters (except for SUKSIS, PALAPES - 6 semesters). However, we must choose properly because later on, you cannot change your co-curriculum programs... FOREVER. Unless if you want to join SUKSIS or Palapes then you can request but you might pass or fail lah.. I chose Karate Do for my co-curriculum program. Karate Do is very fun to learn, we have regular practices on Mondays and Thursdays (night) but you may skip those practices if you want. But you have to pay RM60 as a fee per year(for two semesters) and you will need to pay for grading fees as well so if you don't want to spend money for co-curriculum program, you don't have to join. But if you want to enjoy your co-curriculum program, then by all means, come and join us! However, it's limited only to 100 students only. First come first serve maa.. But you still can join the Karate Do club if you want to learn karate :3
